Black Maternal Health Legacy Scholarship Overview
The Black Maternal Health Legacy Scholarship is a merit-based college scholarship for students pursuing careers in public health, nursing, mental health, or social work—fields that are critical in addressing Black maternal health disparities. This scholarship seeks to empower the next generation of healthcare professionals dedicated to improving maternal outcomes and eliminating racial inequities in healthcare.
Award Amount:
Scholarships range from $2,500 per recipient, based on academic achievement, financial need, and commitment to Black maternal health.
Eligibility Criteria:
Must be an U.S. high school senior, undergraduate, or masters student enrolled in or accepted into an U.S. accredited program.
Must be pursuing a degree in public health, nursing, mental health, social work, or a related field.
Must demonstrate a commitment to Black maternal health advocacy, research, or community service.
Minimum GPA of 3.0 required.
Applicants must submit an essay on their passion for improving Black maternal health, their career aspirations, and how they plan to make an impact.
The Black Maternal Health Legacy Scholarship not only provides financial support but also invests in future healthcare leaders who will drive systemic change and improve the lives of Black mothers and families.

Black Maternal Health Legacy Scholarship 2025 Recipient
Alexandra M. Dubuisson, MS
Alexandra M. Dubuisson is a second-year medical student at LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport (LSUHS). She holds a master's degree in Biomedical Sciences from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in New York and in Public Health from Meharry Medical College, where her work focused on reducing childbirth-related maternal mortality. Deeply committed to advancing health equity, Ms. Dubuisson aspires to become a physician dedicated to improving maternal and community health outcomes in underserved populations. At LSUHS, she serves as President of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) LSUHS Chapter and President of the Lifeline Student Organization for Pregnant Mothers. Her leadership and service reflect an enduring commitment to compassion, excellence, and advocacy in medicine. Alexandra is honored to be recognized as a Conley Cares Foundation Award Recipient for her dedication to service and community health.
